Why do you run?
PLEASE, TELL ME WHY YOU RUN! E-mail me at ckaret@hotmail.com and I'll put YOUR reasons up!
"You can listen to the stream run. You can listen to the birds. Music is my life, but running allows me to appreciate the music of the outdoors." GAIL WILLIAMS, horn player "Running helps me stay on an even keel and in an optimistic frame of mind." BILL CLINTON "Running helps me be more productive . . . I'll be running until I'm a little old lady." CLAUDINE SCHNEIDER, Congresswoman "I run because I love the sweat, the feel of my heart pumping, the sound of my feet hitting the pavement, most of all, I love the high I get when I'm done." CHRISTA, Buffalo, NY "I
run because I love the feel of crisp air on my skin, smell of freshness "Why
I run:
"I run because:
1. I sit behind a desk all day and grow extra
bellys.
2. I boasted to my wife how I used to run 20
miles a day, and she laughed at me.
3. No-one can intrude on my quality thinking
time.
4. There's no way so guaranteed to get the
adrenaline rush and the high, than to run through the driving rain and biting
wind." KARL ANTHONY CARTLIDGE, Northhampton,
England
"Running to me is the agony of dragging
out of bed at 4 am on a perfectly good Sunday morning to sleep in, knowing that
your roads are expecting you on your long run, forcing down a couple cups of
coffee and then as you work into your run, the sheer and utter joy as you watch
the world wake up around you. I feel a kinship with thousands of other
runners on those mornings even though I train alone, knowing they are doing
exactly the same thing as me, thinking and dreaming about the feeling of the 26
mile marker, the pain going away, the tears welling in my eyes as a smile
breaks out on my face. The finish line approaches and my arms reach
skyward and that feeling like no other, that cannot be described, that now a
runner is a marathoner, that can only be earned through hard work and dedication
is relived on each and every long run. That's why I run!
As you get older you reflect on the past. Sent by Mike Maguire
"Because it will extend and save my
life. Those that work under a light bar and siren die faster from
cardiovascular disease. And I run after people. And I run toward
danger. But sometimes, danger runs toward me...
I run to get away from regular people and
questions and manmade noise. I run to hear my own breath and little
else. I like to know I'm still in there."
ELIZABETH P. -- Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper
I run because... the worse thing to running is not being able to run. I run because for that hour or so every other day, I am the master of my own universe. I am a thought factory that is powered by the movement of my body. ROBERT TUDISCO, Eastchester NY
I run because my daughter who runs on her
college's cross country team said to me in August, "Come on dad and run
with me today." Now, almost 4 months later, I am 40 pounds lighter
and just ran my first 5k race...with my sights on a marathon in Nov....my
daughter's simple command has really changed my day. After not being
able to run a quarter of a mile I can now go 7 miles or more...more
importantly, it is such a peaceful time of the day or night. A big
thanks to my daughter for this gift.
Ingles Alexander Running is a way for me to set an example for my daughter. I want her to learn that taking care of herself always has to be top priority. Ellen Dyjak Rocky Mount, NC
