Dear Friends and Fellow Runners: Having run two marathons for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, I know first-hand how wonderful this organization is. If you are going to do a marathon, why not do it for someone else? I have found that running for someone else who is ill, or in memory of someone, is indeed a humbling experience, and brings new meaning to your marathon. Below is a picture of me and my Honored Patient, Alice, a 10 year Leukemia survivor, at our Team in Training kick off party. Because of advances made in research through donations, Alice was able to live to have many more days with her children and her 22 grandchildren. I wore a hospital bracelet during my entire 18 weeks of training with Alice's name on it.
Sadly, before the Disney marathon that I was running for Alice, she passed away. I truly believe that her spirit was with me when I ran my marathon. This only strengthened my resolve to help raise money to find a cure. I strongly urge you to go check out the Team in Training web site, which is: www.teamintraining.org. It will be a life-changing experience!
